SWTOR Commando Talents List

In this SWTOR Commando talents list, you will get a full list of Commando Talents for both the Combat Medic and Gunnery talent trees.

These two talent trees are very different from each other and are for different roles. By using this talents list, you will get a good idea of what these talents can do and what they are capable of.

SWTOR Commando Talents – Gunnery

The Gunnery Talent tree is the offensive branch of the Commando’s talents. It offers the Commando the ability to increase the power of its Assault Cannon. This is the talent tree you will put most of your points in if you want to deal damage as a Commando.

While all of the SWTOR Commando Talents for Gunnery aren’t yet known, we do have a few:

Charged Barrel:: Charged Rounds increase the damage of your next Hammer Shot by 10%. Lasts 6 seconds.

We will of course expand this list out to a full talent tree for release.

SWTOR Commando Talents – Combat Medic

The Combat Medic talent tree allows the Commando to be a healer. In most group situations, you will either want to specialize in Combat Medic or Gunnery. You need to either maximize your damage or maximize your healing ability to be most beneficial for a group.

However, when it comes to playing solo, you may want to mix and match talent points for best results. Either way, here are the Combat Medic talents we know of:

Improved Kolto Bomb: Your Kolto Bomb now heals targets under 50% health for 20% more. This makes Kolto Bomb stronger when it comes to healing up a target who is taking a lot of damage.

We will be adding more Combat Medic talents to this list as Star Wars The Old Republic draws closer to release.

SWTOR Commando Talents – Shared Talents

Both the Commando and the Vanguard have access to the Assault Specialist talent tree. You can get a list of these shared talents on our SWTOR Trooper talents section.

SWTOR Commando Talents List Conclusion

With this SWTOR Commando Talents list, you can better predict exactly what you will need to do as an SWTOR Commando in order to match your talent points with the playstyle you prefer or that best fits your group.

SWTOR Trooper Abilities and Skills List

In this article, you will find a full list of SWTOR Trooper Abilities and skills. Not only that, but you will discover the top strategies and uses for each ability so that you can get the most out of all your abilities.

In this particular article, we will be covering the Abilities and Skills that belong to the Assault Specialist tree, which is the shared tree between both the Commando and the Vanguard. You will also find links to the sections on the site dedicated to Commando and Vanguard-specific abilities and skills.

SWTOR Trooper Abilities and Skills – Advanced Classes

About 2/3 of your abilities as a Trooper will be dependent upon whether you selected to play a Vanguard or a Commando, as well as what talents you end up picking up.

You can get a full list of Vanguard and Commando abilities and skills via the articles below:

Star Wars The Old Republic Trooper Abilities – Assault Specialist

Abilities that fit under the category of Assault Specialist are available to both Commandos and Vanguards. Once the game is released, we will add a full list of Assault Specialist abilities as well as releasing strategies on how to get the most out of each ability and explain the situations where each skill really shines.

SWTOR Trooper Skills and Abilities Conclusion

While we are still in the dark about most of the SWTOR Trooper Skills, we will be adding them all as soon as the game comes out. Be sure to check in and get all the good information from us during that time!

SWTOR Trooper Talents List

There are 5 separate SWTOR Trooper Talent trees. The Commando and Vanguard each have two unique talent trees and there is a single shared talent tree between both advanced classes (Assault Specialist).

We have broken down SWTOR Trooper Talents list into three sections as a result: one for Commandos, one for Vanguards, and one for the shared talent tree (the list for the Assault Specialist is included on this page).

SWTOR Trooper Talents List – Commando Talents – Gunnery and Combat Medic

The Command has access to two primary talent trees: Gunnery and Combat Medic. Gunnery talents are designed to make the Commando a viable mid-long ranged DPS class whereas Combat Medic allows this class to heal.

You can get a full list of Commando talents on our SWTOR Commando Talent Trees page.

SWTOR Trooper Talent Trees – Vanguard Talents – Tactics and Shield Specialist

The Vanguard is given access to two very different combat trees: Tactics and Shield Specialist. Tactics turns the class into a melee damage dealer while Shield Specialist focuses on defensive tanking talents.

You can get a full list of Vanguard talents on our SWTOR Vanguard Talent Trees page.

SWTOR Trooper Talent Trees – Shared – Assault Specialist

The Assault Specialist is the only talent tree which is shared by all advanced classes that the Trooper progresses from. When the game is released, I will be adding a talent list for the Trooper to this very page.

SWTOR Trooper Talents Conclusion

You now know all the talents that the Trooper has and what their uses are. This will help you create good builds and help you avoid wasting your talent points in Star Wars The Old Republic.

SWTOR Trooper Advanced Classes

There are two different SWTOR Trooper advanced classes: the Trooper and the Commando. In this article, you will discover what these two classes are, what their roles are, and find links to guides for each of these classes.

Note that the developers have stated that you are free to switch between the two of these classes, so you do not have to pick which Star Wars The Old Republic Trooper advanced specialization you want to pick at the outset of the game.

SWTOR Trooper Advanced Classes – Commando

The Commando trades defense for offensive or healing abilities. The Commando wears lighter armor than the Vanguard and instead opts to either maximize the damage of its Assault Cannon or its healing abilities.

The Gunnery talent spec is the one that allows the Commando to be an offensive powerhouse. This ranged class deals significant amounts of damage from range and even has some powerful casted attacks it can use when standing still.

On the other hand, the Combat Medic talent tree gives the Commando access to healing abilities if you are into running flashpoints and operations.

You do not have to spec as a hybrid of these two things, and can focus solely in on damage or healing, whichever one is your cup of tea.

For a guide to this class, check out our SWTOR Commando Guide.

SWTOR Trooper Advanced Classes – Vanguard

Unlike the Commando, the Vanguard picks up heavy armor and defensive capabilities and forfeits many of its ranged attacks. Instead, it can play as a tanking class or as a melee DPS class.

The Vanguard’s Tactics talent tree allows the class to become a melee damage-dealer. This is a good spec for leveling up or as an off-spec for farming or PvP.

The Vanguard’s other talent tree, Shield Specialist, is what allows the Vanguard to tank. The Vanguard can tank both flashpoints (dungeons) and operations (raids); this class is not a hybrid tank and is completely functional.

For a guide to this advanced class, check out our SWTOR Vanguard guide.

SWTOR Trooper Advanced Classes Conclusion

Given the nature of the Vanguard and the Commando, the Trooper is capable of filling any role in the game. As a result, if you are not sure what class type you would like to play, the Trooper is a good choice as you can pick try out all of the playstyles offered in SWTOR by changing your advanced class and build.

SWTOR Trooper, Commando, and Vanguard Builds

Like many classes in Star Wars The Old Republic, the Trooper is very versatile and can play as many different classes. Below, you will find an assortment of SWTOR Trooper builds for both the Commando and Vanguard advanced classes.

SWTOR Trooper Builds – Commando

There are two primary builds that you can play as a Commando in Star Wars The Old Republic: As Gunnery or as Combat Medic. Each one has a very different function.

The Gunnery talent tree allows the Trooper to be a ranged DPS class and a true Commando. The Gunnery talent tree puts an emphasis on the Assault Cannon, and makes the class play like you would think the Commando would play like.

On the other hand, you can also spec into Combat Medic, which allows the Commando to become a healer. This may be useful if you are having a hard time getting a group for a dungeon or you want to play with your friends and need a healer.

For specific SWTOR builds for the Commando, visit the appropriate section below:

Star Wars The Old Republic Trooper Builds – Vanguard

If you did not find what you were looking for in the Commando, the Vanguard offers both other types of classes available in SWTOR: melee DPS and tanking.

The Tactics talent tree is for melee DPS and grants the Vanguard access to a variety of melee damage-dealing abilities. This is a great off-spec for tanking and may turn out ot be a good class in its own right, but don’t hold your breath on it. After all, if the Vanguard could be a top melee DPS class, why would anyone play Jedi Knight?

On the other hand, the Vanguard does make a good tank. It has some ranged abilities, which makes it very good at tanking ranged bosses (which are actually very common in Star Wars The Old Republic).

The Vanguard’s Shield Specialist talent tree is what is most suited for tanking, and grants it health and defensive bonuses that you will want to take advantage of.

We have broken up our Vanguard builds into several sections, which you can find below:

SWTOR Trooper, Vanguard, and Commando Builds Conclusion

There are many potentially viable SWTOR Trooper builds you can use. The list of builds mentioned in this article is a great place to start if you are looking Star Wars The Old Republic Builds.

SWTOR Trooper PvP Builds and Guide

In this SWTOR Trooper PvP guide, we will be going over the top strategies and Trooper PvP builds that you can use in Star Wars The Old Republic.

The Trooper can play four separate roles in PvP: ranged DPS, healer, tank, and melee DPS. Of course, this depends on which advanced class you decide to go with. The Commando can play as a DPS or healer, while the Vanguard can play as a tank or melee DPS.

In the next part of the SWTOR Trooper PvP Guide, we will be looking at the specifics of each advanced specialization and provide some SWTOR Trooper PvP builds that you can use.

Star Wars The Old Republic Trooper PvP Guide – Commando

If you decide to play as a Commando in PvP in SWTOR, you can choose between playing as a ranged DPS class or as a healer. Both are viable options.

The Gunnery talent tree focuses in on ranged DPS and boosting the damage dealt by the Commando’s trademark Assault Cannon. You can combine this talent tree with the Assault Specialist tree for great results.

On the other hand, you can put points into the Combat Medic tree, which allows the Commando class to become a healer. This is a viable PvP healer as it has quite a few abilities available to it. You will want to focus in on Combat Medic, only diverting extra talent points to Assault Specialist.

For specific SWTOR Trooper PvP builds for the Commando, check out our SWTOR Commando PvP builds section.

SWTOR Trooper PvP Guide – Vanguard

The Vanguard is an option for those looking to participate in Warzones, although the playstyle is much different from that of the Commando. The Tactics talent tree allows the Vanguard to be a melee DPS class while the Shield Specialist allows them to tank.

A build that centers on the Tactics tree can allow the Vanguard to deal damage in PvP. This can be a fun off-spec for tanks, but melee classes always have inherent strengths and weaknesses. In Warzones, melee classes tend to be susceptible to ranged classes unless accompanied by a healer.

On the other hand, you can play as a tank by speccing into Shield Specialist. This is a more team-oriented role and only players who are serious about winning games should pick this Trooper PvP build. The reason for this is that you will end up guarding PvP objectives and carrying the flag, neither of which are productive activities unless your team is acting like a team.

For some specific builds and a guide on the Vanguard class, check out our SWTOR Vanguard PvP builds section.

SWTOR Trooper PvP Guide Conclusion

By following the builds and strategies outlined in this SWTOR Trooper PvP guide, you should have a good idea of what to spec and what builds to opt for should you decide to PvP as a Trooper in Star Wars The Old Republic.

SWTOR Vanguard PvP Builds and Guide

In this SWTOR Vanguard PvP guide, we will be going over the different roles the Vanguard can play in PvP and some specific SWTOR Vanguard PvP builds you can use to fill those roles.

If you want to do some serious PvPing, you can also consider respeccing and playing as a Commando in order to play as a ranged class or healer. However, the Vanguard can work in PvP, provided you are willing to play a specific role in each Warzone.

SWTOR Vanguard PvP Guide – Class Options

In Star Wars The Old Republic, the Vanguard has two options when it comes to playstyle for PvP: melee DPS and tank. Naturally, melee DPS classes excel at taking down other players and controlling casters (both healers and offensive casting classes). The Tactics tree is fit for that role.

However, players can also play as a tanking class in PvP. A tanking Vanguard with points in Shield Specialist can carry the ball in Huttball very effectively as well as defend nodes. While defending map objectives is not very fun, a defensive Vanguard is well-suited for this task since they can win a lot of 1v1s and survive long enough to call for help.

SWTOR Vanguard PvP Builds – Tactics

As mentioned, if you want to play as a DPS as a Vanguard in SWTOR, you will need to put points into the tactics tree. This way, you can become a melee DPS class. If you want to play as a ranged DPS, the only option is to play as Commando.

Melee DPS classes suffer when they are surprised by ranged classes, so you need to be really careful of your surroundings. Your best bet it so try to sneak up on casters and ranged classes. If you can force them into melee combat, the Tactics talent tree really shines.

I will be adding some specific Tactics builds to this SWTOR Vanguard PvP Guide shortly.

SWTOR Vanguard PvP Builds – Shield Specialist

While not an offensive powerhouse, the Shield Specialist focuses on on maximizing the Vanguard’s defensive capabilities. This can come in handy in a few situations.

One of those is in Huttball. Naturally, someone on your team needs to carry the ball through to your enemies’ end zone in order to score a point. This person is the target of attacks from your opponents. Naturally, a defensive Vanguard with a lot of HP and defense is ideal for such a role.

Furthermore, some of the Warzones like Alderaan have objectives which are important to the team, but you don’t want to keep the whole team on defense. While not the most entertaining role to fill, a defensively-specced Vanguard can do this task quite well.

SWTOR Vanguard PvP Guide and Builds Conclusion

The Star Wars Old Republic Vanguard can be quite effective in PvP if you are willing to use a good PvP build and then follow the role that build excels at. If you can do that, you will have a lot of success as an SWTOR Vanguard.

SWTOR Commando PvP Builds and Guide

The Commando can be a great class in PvP, if you pick the right SWTOR Commando PvP builds and understand you role in each Warzone. In this SWTOR Commando PvP guide, we will be going over both types of builds you can play in PvP in order to be very effective.

SWTOR Commando PvP Builds – Gunnery

The Gunnery talent tree sees to maximize the effectiveness of the Commando’s Assault Cannon, and is great for boosting the burst damage of this class.

If you spec into Gunnery for PvP, you want to stay away from the Combat Medic talent tree. You need all your points in Gunnery and your leftover points in Assault Specialist. This will maximize your burst damage.

In PvP and Warzones, you need to work as a team. You want to take players down safely from range before they ever have a chance to know what hit them. You do not want to waste talent points on healing but rather need to depend on your teammates to heal you.

If you are in a match with no healers, you need to simply use terrain and surprise to your advantage. Sneak up on melee and caster classes from range and get the jump on your opponent and you can often win 2v1s without much problem.

When the game comes out, you will find some specific SWTOR Commando PvP builds added to this SWTOR Commando PvP guide.

SWTOR Commando PvP Guide – Combat Medic

If you want to play as a healer in PvP, the Combat Medic is not a bad choice. One thing to be careful about is the Trauma Probe. When someone is being focus fired, the Trauma Probe doesn’t supply a lot of burst healing, so you need to be worried about your max healing per second heals here.

On the other hand, after a major battle, you want to put Probes on everyone that is damaged so that you can heal up as you ride on to your next target or get ready for reinforcements.

As a Combat Medic, your other talent tree should be Assault Specialist. There will be some specific SWTOR Combat Medic PvP builds added to this Commando PvP guide soon enough.

SWTOR Commando PvP Guide and Builds Conclusion

Once the game comes out, we will be adding some specific Star Wars The Old Republic Commando PvP builds to this guide, so stop in shortly for more info before you head into the Warzones!

SWTOR Trooper Tips

As a ranged class with a lot of abilities and builds, there are a lot of great SWTOR Trooper tips which you can use to help play the class better.

We will be adding more SWTOR Trooper tips to this section over time, so be sure to check back when Star Wars The Old Republic is finally released.

SWTOR Trooper Tips: #1. Match your build to your playstyle.

The Trooper has so many builds available to it that one of the best things you can do is get one that fits exactly what you are doing. You can really mess up your Trooper’s spec and wind up with a class that is not really functional.

For example, a Gunnery/Combat Medic spec might be good for leveling up, but if you put too many points in Combat Medic, you won’t have the burst damage you need to be effective in PvP and you won’t have the DPS to be effective in flashpoints and operations.

One of the best SWTOR Trooper Tips you can follow to get around this problem is trying out every talent tree in the game. This will give you a firsthand feel for how each talent tree plays so you can know whether or not it is right for you.

SWTOR Trooper Tips – Conclusion

While we do not have many Star Wars The Old Republic Trooper tips to share with you right now, there will definitely be a lot more available on this page once the game comes out!

SWTOR Trooper Leveling Builds

In Star Wars The Old Republic, Troopers have plenty of options available to them for leveling up, but I would say there are a few particular “best” SWTOR Trooper leveling builds.

SWTOR Trooper Leveling Builds – Advanced Classes

Since you can follow the storyline quests and get all the way to max level this way, you can get through the game as any advanced class.

However, if you aren’t sure what you want to play, I would recommend leveling up as a Commando. The Commando gets great ranged DPS talents thanks to the Gunnery talent tree and can even get a bit of self-healing through Combat Medic.

By combining these DPS and healing talents, you can create a very strong character which is able to deal good damage, has little downtime, and is quite hard to take down, which is ideal for the questing environment.

SWTOR Trooper Leveling Builds – Commando

If you do decide to heed my advice and play as a Commando, you can either max out DPS by going fully into Gunnery or splitting points between Gunnery and Combat Medic.

If you put all your points into Gunnery, you will be able to deal more damage, but also have more downtime and have less survivability. However, it is still a valid SWTOR Trooper leveling build, especially if you feel like you really aren’t taking advantage of the healing talents.

I will be adding some specific builds shortly to this guide, which you can find in our section: SWTOR Commando Leveling Builds.

Star Wars The Old Republic Trooper Leveling Builds – Vanguard

If you plan on tanking low-level flashpoints as you level up, you may want to level up as a Vanguard. If you do decide to do this, make sure you are putting points in Tactics, as this is ideal for solo leveling.

If you end up tanking an instance, you naturally will want to switch over points to Shield Specialist, but you never want to solo as a Shield Specialist as it is just too slow.

For specific Vanguard leveling builds, check out our section on SWTOR Vanguard leveling builds.

SWTOR Trooper Leveling Builds – Wrap-Up

By following the SWTOR Trooper leveling builds given to you here, you can level up quickly and efficiently. I recommend leveling up as a Commando; you can always change over to Vanguard once you reach the max level.
